What's it?
Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation
The term "global warming" is a specific example of global climate change. The term "climate change" can also refer to other periods of overall temperature change such as global cooling. In common usage, the term "global warming" refers to the warming in recent decades and implies a human influence. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) uses the term "climate change" for human-caused change, and "climate variability" for other changes. The term "anthropogenic global warming" is sometimes used when focusing on human-induced changes. The Earth's climate has changed many times during the planet's history, with events ranging from ice ages to long periods of warmth. Historically, natural factors such as volcanic eruptions, changes in the Earth's orbit, and the amount of energy released from the Sun have affected the Earth's climate. Beginning late in the 18th century, human activities associated with the Industrial Revolution have also changed the composition of the atmosphere and therefore very likely are influencing the Earth's climate |
